Formed in the late 1990s, the Sunshine Coast Theatre Alliance Inc. (SCTA) began as a not-for-profit umbrella group to run theatre festivals which had been regularly held since the 1970s. Membership at the time comprised The Indee, BATS, Lind Lane Theatre (now The Lind), Noosa Arts and Caloundra Chorale.

The Alliance provided other benefits too – cheaper insurance and advertising costs for its members – as well as the opportunity to share resources, knowledge and skills across the broad geographic region.

The modern theatre festival – Sunshine Coast LIVE! – is held over two consecutive weekends every year, usually in August. It is an integral part of the South-east Queensland festival circuit and accommodates 30–40 entries across both junior and open sections.

Sunshine Coast LIVE! not only encourages and rewards excellence in the performing arts, it is proud to be inclusive and help to foster home-grown playwrights.

Today, the SCTA hosts numerous members made up of not-for-profit community groups, youth theatres and pro-ams. Collectively, they produce countless live performances in a wide variety of performance spaces, each year.

The SCTA boasts many award-winning actors, actresses, directors and playwrights and new members are always welcome.
